SHAH ALAM, September 29, 2019 – In line with the Red Giant’s 5-year Development Plan, a comprehensive grassroots development program is one of the crucial pillars in creating a sustainable core for the state.
Football Association of Selangor (FAS) yesterday launched its principal grassroots development program, FAS Soccer Schools, in the first 5 primary schools across Selangor.
SK Bandar Anggerik and SK Kota Kemuning from Shah Alam, SK Sungai Binjai from Klang, SK Sri Kelana from Petaling Jaya, and SK SS6 from Kota Damansara are the first five schools being chosen for the pilot project.
“The FAS Soccer Schools program is a joint collaboration between FAS and Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Selangor which will benefit all parties involved. To ensure the quality and sustainability of the program, FAS is responsible to provide football expertise, coaching workshops, equipment and playing opportunities while the participating schools are responsible to provide football fields and teachers as coaches for their respective students,” said FAS President, Tengku Amir Shah.
In addition, Dr. Johan Kamal Hamidon, Secretary-General of Football Association of Selangor also emphasised that FAS Soccer Schools is one of the long-term initiatives that FAS are taking to ensure the sustainability and consistent growth of FA Selangor; both on and off the field.
“We feel that the collaborative relationship between FAS and our official school partners is a good arrangement that can be implemented by other football clubs and associations as it brings numerous benefits to both parties,” said Johan.
“FAS Soccer Schools will be the main entry point for highly spirited Selangor children in primary schools to enter the ‘FAS Homegrown Pathway’, wherewith persistence, determination, grit and hard work, will put the children on a structured path to become a professional footballer in Selangor.”
“By being part of FAS Soccer Schools, the children will be exposed to high-quality training by FAM certified coaches in an environment that is conducive to the children’s development,” he added.
In its launch, FAS Soccer Schools will be rolled out in 5 primary schools in Selangor.
